Brightburn- A bright future for the franchise

07/28/2019

Brightburn (2019) was directed by David Yarovesky and stars Jackson A. Dunn as Brandon. He was adopted by a family when he was a child but he isn't from this earth. He is now in middle school and is starting to gain access to his powers. The device that sent him to earth is now calling him from the family barn. It is finally calling him to complete what he was sent to earth to do, take over. The film was basically if an evil superman came to earth to conquer and kill. I loved how the movie didn't take forever to get into the meat of it. I loved seeing the progression to insanity for Brandon. I loved the dynamic of the parents as the mother slowly comes out of denial to see how evil her son was. The gore in the movie was also outstanding. It was shocking yet realistic for what Brandon's powers would do to these people. My favorite part of the movie was the moment when Brandons father took him out to the woods to put him down. The scene was beautifully shot and the end to it all was truly heartbreaking. only problem with the film is that some of the backstory was a little weak and unexplained. I hope to see a sequel someday to explain some of these issues. Otherwise, I highly recommend this film.
