Couples Retreat- Booming Vacation

Couples Retreat (2009) was directed by Peter Billingsley and stars Vince Vaughn as a man who is invited alongside his wife, on a couples vacation by his friends who are having marital issues. Once on the island, the find out that the resort is a place for couples to fall in love again through bonding exercises. When they sneak into the singles side of the resort to find one of the members of their group, they all seem to go through something to fall back in love again. Couples Retreat is a movie that has flown under a lot of peoples radars. Not only is this movie insanely funny, but it has a star studded cast. (Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Krisin Davis, Ken Jeong and many more). This cast plays off of each other extremely well and the couples bonding scenes in the film are standouts. There are moments of laugh out loud situations that will be remembered by me for a very long time. One scene that sticks out in my mind is the couples yoga. The scene made me laugh so hard that my stomach started hurting. I also enjoyed the setting of the film. The island resort the characters are staying is vibrant and makes everyone watching the film wish they could be there themselves. There are moments in the film that drag heavily, especially towards the start of the film, but once they get on the island, the movie really takes off and is never dull again. I also wish that some of the problems these couples are going through were played more seriously instead of for laughs. Couples Retreat needs more recognition that it has gotten. Not only is this movie a classic, but the scenes are quotes in the film still make me laugh to this day.
