Cry Macho- A Clint Eastwood Classic

09/17/2021

Cry Macho (2021) was directed by Clint Eastwood and stars himself as a man by the name of Mike Milo. Mike is a washed up rodeo star who finds purpose in bringing a friends son away from his alcoholic mother. During that trek, he uses his knowledge to teach the boy what it means to be a good person. First off, huge props to Clint Eastwood for really knocking this role out of the park at his age. He is still a great actor and his performance still holds up in this film. You can really see how much his past life has changed him and how it has made him the man he is today. I do want to let you know that this movie is very slow and an adult drama. At times there was a bit of overacting and cheesiness, especially from Rafa (played by Eduardo Minett), but the duo of him and Eastwood really grew on me. There was a feeling that this boy really felt like Mike Milo was a true father figure for him. There is also a very nice theme throughout the film that being all tough and macho is stupid. When you're young, you think you're invincible when you really don't know much about the world. Now moving on to the negatives, the film drags a bunch. There were multiple times in the film where I feel like scenes could have been cut to better pacing. Also, outside of the two main characters, none of the characters were memorable. The film really is carried by the main duo and nobody else. In the end, Clint Eastwood fans will enjoy this film. He is still giving out great performances at his age. Even though this isn't one of his best films, I believe that this will be one of his classics.
