Dune- Star Wars Wannabe

Dune (2021) was directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Timothee Chalamet as a boy who is being trained to take over his fathers role as leader of their colony. After realistic nightmares haunt the boy, he decides to make the dangerous trek around his plant for the resources to keep his colony going. Of course they aren't the only ones going for them, so this inevitably leads to conflict. This movie is based on a best selling novel that I haven't had the chance to read. This lead to a lot of confusion and drag on my end. Even though this movie looks stunning and the cast is packed to the brim with stars, this still didn't make up from the fact that this movies setup was poor. This movie is clearly setting itself up for a bigger universe, so I hope that future installments dive deeper into this worlds lore. Now with the positives. This films cast is phenomenal with amazing performances around the board. This cast includes Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Oscar Issac, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson and many more. I loved the banter between them and their acting really had me believing that they cared about the role and the material they were given. The cinematography in the film is also the best I have seen in a while. From the landscapes and sweeping shots to the clothing that these characters wear, the world that they are in, even though it was hard for me to follow, felt lived in. This film isn't done justice on a smaller screen so I recommend checking this one out in the best theatre you can. At the end of the day, Dune is part one in a story that needs to be explained more. Hopefully, the future installments in the series can do so.
