Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom- A fallen franchise

08/01/2018

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) was directed by J.A Bayona and star Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as the two are driven back to the island to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from the erupting volcano. The eventually find out that they aren't the only humans on the island. An evil group of rich men are stealing these dinosaurs to sell them on the black market. As a fan of the franchise, I can only say that I was very disappointed with how the film was done. Not only did it feel like a cheap cash in with the Jurassic park name, it was defiantly a film that was used to hype up the next one. Christ Pratt was a show stealer as always with his comedic yet hard portrayal of Owen. His love interest Claire does a good job of keeping up with him throughout the film but the rest of the cast was left behind. Besides a couple of good laughs from Justice Smiths character, Franklin, I was never impressed with the cast. The villain was bland and predictable with his decisions and I was never afraid that he would be able to take down our heroes. The dinosaur action looked fine with the final new dinosaur, the Indo-Raptor stealing the show as the scariest in the film. It's fight with Blue at the end of the movie, even though it was predictable, was fun to watch. The reason the movie was so disappointing for me was how the ending was handled. It completely ruined the film for me. There was a minor sub plot of cloning and it was brought up last second and forced the movie into a complete new direction when the movie should have ended. It felt underwhelming and it honestly upset me. It was defiantly used to set up another movie and it felt like the film up to this point was now a waste. I hope they can fix this in the future installment but for now, I will just have to be disappointed.
