Old- Stuck in the Sand

Old (2021) was directed by M. Night Shyamalan and stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Vicky Krieps as parents who take their kids away for a family vacation. Once they have arrived, they are escorted to a beach that is far away from everything. Once there, they realize that they can't leave and time is going by faster, resulting in them aging faster as well. This movie was very thought provoking on my first viewing. I enjoyed the concept of the film and how certain things were executed, but I know some parts of the film should have been left out. Near the end of the film, it cut to black a couple times and it continued. If the film ended the first time like I thought it was going to, it would have been a lot better. There was also a certain scene that is in the trailer that was very hard to watch. I won't spoil what it is, but it could have been cut out of the film and it would still have had zero consequences on the rest of the movie. When talking about the script, it was weirdly paced and dry at times. The characters also seemed to know exactly what was going on while making it seem like they were guessing at times. I will say, the acting from Alexander Wolff was great. I love his work and his portrayal of the teenage kid was great. Having the body of a fifteen year old and the mind of a six year old was a great concept. In closing, you know what you're getting into when seeing one of these Shyamalan films and you will either love or hate this one. I enjoyed it, but I didn't exactly love it. I would recommend seeing this one though. There were a lot of great themes in the film that were expanded upon that made me think about my everyday life and living in the moment.
