Pirates of the Caribbean Movies Ranked!
I grew up with the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I remembered always being excited for the next movie to come out. Sadly, the franchise really took a blow with the last two entries. After seeing ads for these movies, I decided to go back and rank every movie from worst to best!
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

This film did not feel like a Pirates movie at all without Johnny Depp on screen. The film felt like a quick cash grab to keep the series relevant. Outside of Captain Jack Sparrow doing what he does best, Penelope Cruz also did a pretty decent job as well. The villain of the film was forgettable and the dialogue felt cheap this time around. This is not the best Pirates movie in the slightest and a laughable addition to the saga.

4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

This movie was definitely a step up from the last installment but it still felt they were still looking for the correct formula for how to make these movies. Yes the movie had great scenes of action and excitement that we were used to fro the series, but some of the leading characters felt like replacements for the older characters that we missed. Captain Armando Salazar felt like a great villain with an actual backstory that warranted him hating Captain Jack. Sadly, this movie is still average at best with it possibly killing off the franchise as a whole.

3. Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

This was the last Pirates movie I saw in theaters and the final movie of the original trilogy. The movie has the task of wrapping everything up but it ended up making the film three hours long. There are many moments of drag throughout that make the movie hard to watch, but the ending battle is well worth the wait. Davy Jones gets his perfect send off as one of the best characters of the series and we get a solid ending to Will Turners story. The movie unexpectedly killed off the Kraken off screen which was disappointing, but the return of Hector Barbosa was amazing. I thought the movie was a solid ending to one of the best silver screen pirate trilogies.

2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

This movie is the introduction of the two most fearsome characters in the franchise, Davy Jones and the Kraken. This film has a bunch of great action and mystery as we find out more of the crew that was taken over by sea creatures. Johnny Depp has one of his best performances of the franchise as his battle with Davy Jones Nears. Orlando Bloom as does an amazing job as the supporting character in the film. The final twist of the movie was also something I still remembered as a child in the theatre. It had me excited for the next film back then, and it still gave me the same feeling today.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

This movie kickstarted one of the best pirates franchises in all of cinema. This film is a masterclass in how to write and direct one. Not only is Johnny Depp flawless in his role but Geoffrey Rush is as well. This film is scary, funny and action packed. It is one of the movies I fondly remember from my childhood. I still find myself wanting to watch it to this day. It is near perfect in every sense of the word.
