Scream 6- Ghostface takes NYC

03/21/2023

Scream 6 (2023) was directed by Tyler Gillet and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin.  The movie follows Samantha and Tara a year after the events of the last film. When there, the Ghostface killer returns and goes after their friend group again. After last years disaster of a film, I went into this one with very low expectations. I was happily surprised to say that this is my favorite one since the original! The cast was filled with well rounded performances and tons of Meta humor. The set pieces in the film were also spectacular. The train sequence and the Bodega sequence were heart stopping. I also have to say that this movie is by far the most graphic in the franchise. Alongside the horror being amped up, the killer reveal was satisfying and felt paid off. I feel like they really wanted to try something new here and the risks that they took felt justified and welcomed. My one gripe with the film though is how these characters feel unkillable. There were multiple moments where they should not have lived past and always did. At the end of the day, this is how a Scream movie should be done and I really hope that they continue this trend and end this trilogy on a good note.
