Snake Eyes- G.I Joke

Snake Eyes (2021) was directed by Robert Schwentke and stars Henry Golding as the famous Ninja Snake Eyes. He is on a quest to avenge his father who was killed right in-front of him. Snake Eyes then goes through rigorous training to avenge him and save the village that took him in. I was very close to walking out on this film. Everything about the movie felt generic and boring. The plot is predictable and dry. The action is ruined by a crazy amount of shaky camera work. It made the somewhat alright sequences awful. The villain of the film was forget-able and boring. I did not care about anything happening on screen. The movie honestly made Snake Eyes look like the bad guy. There are moments where he makes questionable choices and made me dislike him. I was really disappointed with Henry Golding's performance. He was great in his other films but really dropped the ball with this one. I thought this movie was supposed to be grounded in some sort of reality, but the movie randomly throws giant snakes at him. There was an opportunity here to make Snake Eyes a monster who is brutal and intense, but the writing trashes it! I also love Samara Weaving, but why did she take this role? They make her boring and unlikeable too. This movie also ruined the best part of Snake Eyes. They had him wear the mask for thirty seconds at max. They used it so much in the trailer that I almost thought we would see him in his completed form, but nope! Only the final seconds of the film! I counted eight people who walked out on the film and I wanted to join them so bad. This is a terrible way to reboot the series and could possibly kill the franchise before it even starts. One of the worst movies of the year, if not the worst! This film should have taken some direction from "The Last Samurai" (2003). Thats how you do a movie like this. Skip this one and all other G.I Joe movies to come.
