The Last Duel- Chaos Du Diable

The Last Duel (2021) was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer as three people living in medieval times in France. Once Marguerite de Carrouges, (Jodie Comer) accuses Jacques Le Gris, (Adam Driver) of rape, Jean de Carrouges, (Matt Damon) brings it to the highest court. They are given the ruling of a duel to settle the accusation which leads to not only a battle to the death between the two men, but over the life of Marguerite herself. This movie was beautiful. From the cinematography and acting to the pacing, this movie was a delight. The film is nearly three hours long, but it was paced so well that I never found myself drifting away from what was going on. Matt Damon and Adam Driver are wonderful in their roles, but Jodie Comer is the real star of the show. The story is split into three sections with each character showing off their side of the same story. Even though some scenes were show three times, there were drastic differences in each of their interpretations of what transpired. This led me to wanting to see what really happened in their interpretations of the story. I do have to let you know that some scenes near the middle of the film where these evil actions take place are very hard to watch. It was really shocking to see these things take place so I do warn you that it may trigger you. Besides this, the ending battle between the two knights was tense and had me on the edge of my seat. The film does not shy away from the brutality of the time. The Last Duel was a really empowering film and one that many people skipped out on this past weekend because of Halloween Kills. I recommend you go out and support this movie immediately, not only because of its amazing storytelling, but the important themes that are shown throughout.
