The Predator- A remastered cash-in
The Predator (2018) was directed by Shane Black and stars Olivia Munn and Boyd Holbrook as our two main characters who take charge of a rag tag group of convicted soldiers who plan to take down the predator to save themselves and get out of prison. After Captian Mckenna has his son taken from him by the predator himself, plans change as the group now goes to save his son from certain death. I've hear multiple people complain about how annoying the cast was but I honestly think that some of them stole the show. My favorite performance came from Kegan Michael Key with his character of Coyle. His cracks at everyone else in the group really helps lighten up some of the scenarios these characters are put in. The action throughout was awesome. All of the set pieces were big and in your face. The fights weren't too fast and blurred, so I could really see everything that was going on. I do feel like the movie itself relied too much on nostalgia to get people in seats instead of putting some new thoughts into the Predator formula. This franchise had us and the people in the movie afraid to go up against this alien from space, instead some of the characters in the movie go full steam ahead at the seemingly unstoppable killing machine. There should have been more thought into character development instead of making a couple characters good while others were just bait. The ending was also beyond annoying with how obvious it set up a sequel. I will go see the sequel due to how much I love the franchise, but I do hope that it is a lot smarter then this movie ended up being.
