Winchester- bad house, bad movie

Winchester (2018) was directed by Michael and Peter Spierig and stars Jason Clarke as a man that comes in to see the house being built. Once there, he meets it owner, Sarah Winchester, played by Helen Mirren and she explains the history of the estate. The evil ghost that lives there then starts to take control of the workers there as the continue to build on an endless loop until the eventually die. Once the ghost goes for Eric Price, he needs to find a way to make the ghost leave once and for all. The movie is your normal jump-scare fest that really doesn't do a good job. It feels like a Blumhouse rip off that tries too hard to get its scares this time of year. A horror movie in the spring has become a sort of tradition and the movie falters from this. I feel like I would have enjoyed it more at a different time of the year. The film feels more like a haunted house maze than a movie. The acting on the other hand was fine with Here Mirren stealing the show. She is wonderfully creepy and really made the movie for me. He figure really set the tone that the movie needed and you can see this throughout. I'm honestly disappointed that the movie didn't try to do anything new and rely on scares to make the film watchable at best.
